International urban history conference

The Castle Museum of the Budapest History Museum is going to co-host the international urban history conference 'Economic Functions of Urban Spaces from the Middle Ages to the Present' in September 2019.

Exhibition closes early

We inform our visitors that the exhibition 'Buda Castle District Uncovered - 10 Years of Archaeological Excavation' closes one week earlier for technical reasons. The exhibition is open until 24 July 2019.

Temporary Library Closure

We are hereby informing our visitors that the Medieval Library in the Castle Museum is closed until the beginning of May 2019 due to construction works carried out in the building. Thank you for your understanding.    

 

Entry to the Castle Museum in the upcoming days

We are hereby informing our visitors that preparations for an event are being carried out in the Lions Court on 21-23 and 25-26 September. The main entrance of the Castle Museum can be reached through the corridors located on either side of the Court. Regular opening hours apply.       

Entry to the Castle Museum during the Budapest Wine Festival

We are hereby informing our visitors that during the Budapest Wine Festival (6–9 September 2018) the Castle Museum of the Budapest History Museum can be entered through the main entrance in the Lions Court only with a valid ticket to the Wine Festival.     

In case you do not wish to purchase a festival ticket, you are able to enter the Castle Museum from the entrance at the Royal Cellar (Királypince) or the garden gate at Szarvas Square (Szarvas tér) with a regular museum ticket.

Changes in the opening hours of the Medieval Jewish Chapel

We hereby inform our visitors that on the 5th and the 6th of September 2018 the Medieval Jewish Chapel will be closed due to maintenance.

 

From the 7th of September 2018, besides keeping it as an exhibition space, the chapel will also be functioning as a place for religious activities. The opening hours, which you can see below, will change accordingly. The chapel's opening hours may also change in the future according to Jewish holidays, therefore we ask you to please check our website any time you wish to pay a visit. 

 

New opening hours of the Medieval Jewish Chapel as of the 7th of September:
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday: 10am to 5pm
Saturday: 12pm to 5pm
CLOSED on Mondays and Tuesdays

 

 

Toward Smart City – Erasmus+ program

Together with the Dániel Berzsenyi High School (Budapest), our museum has participated in an international Erasmus+ program entitled Toward Smart City – Sustainability and liveability of contemporary city. We are happy to announce that the two-year project, which lasted from 2015 to 2017, has ended with great success.

The Castle Museum is open during the days of the Palace Concerts

Dear Visitors, 

we would like to inform you that the Castle Museum of the Budapest History Museum is open despite the stage construction works currently being carried out in the courtyard in preparation for the Palace Concerts taking place this weekend. The museum's main entrance can be reached by walking past the side of the stage. 

Opening hours: Tue-Sun 10am to 6pm (the museum is closed on Mondays) 

Those Who Built Budapest 3.0

The Budapest History Museum presents a selection of architectural drawings, rare books, pattern books and plaster casts from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries from the Schola Graphidis Art Collection of the Secondary School of Visual Arts of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts.
